Business and regulatory crime / Health and safety / Trading standards / Motoring and haulage / Care

I was called to the bar in 2008, qualified as a solicitor in 2012, hold Criminal and Civil Higher Rights of Audience and am a member of the Health and Safety Lawyers Association. I practice criminal and regulatory Law and undertake both contentious and non-contentious work.

Crime: I specialise in criminal and regulatory defence representing and advising companies, directors and individuals during investigation by agencies such as the HSE, Local Authority or Police and throughout the prosecution process. I regularly represent clients at interview under caution and in court with matters often being concluded at the investigation stage or following the submission of representations to the prosecution, arguing that the charges brought should be reduced or restricted.

I also have a wealth of experience running complex trials, addressing disclosure issues, managing multiple expert witnesses and devising legal argument regarding admissibility or submissions of no case. Many of these stem from death or serious injury and work closely with senior counsel and expert witnesses where necessary to ensure the best results for my clients.

Health, Safety and Environmental:  I have particular expertise in dealing with Health and Safety, Environmental, Food and Fire Safety matter and hold a Nebosh Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. This affords practical knowledge of Health and Safety and thein a detailed understanding of the responsibilities placed on businesses and individuals which is invaluable when advising on risk management or compliance issues.

Safeguarding: I specialise in representing those in a position of trust, such as Childminders and Foster carers being investigated or prosecuted in respect of serious criminal offences. In these cases coupling expertise in serious assault and sexual offences with knowledge safeguarding principles ensures that the circumstances surrounding an allegation can be fully understood and clearly and persuasively presented in interview or to a jury.

SMEs: I am often instructed by small and medium businesses, such as members of the Federation of Small Businesses. As a result I have a particular understanding of the crippling impact of issues such as lost employee or management time, legal expenses, investigation costs, court fines and negative press can have on these clients and will work to ensure investigations and prosecutions are concluded as quickly and efficiently as possible, while still obtaining the best result.

I can't thank Joanna enough for all the brilliant work done for me and my company.
