We need advice on data protection compliance

Overview

Confirming your position

No problem. We can keep this simple for you. If you already know that you need to comply, then we’ll support you through the practical steps of considering your business operations (or your activities if you’re an individual), how the legal obligations affect them and what works best commercially and legally in terms of demonstrating compliance. Of course, if you’re not sure whether you need to do anything to comply with the law, that’s easy, we can talk you through that as a first step too.

Getting to know the 8 essential principles

It might be that you’re a little way along the compliance process and you’ve got questions because, for example, you’re someone who has been identified as a ‘data controller’ and you know you’ve specific duties and obligations to meet.

Data controllers should take as their starting point, the eight essential principles set out in Schedule 1 of the Data Protection Act. These principles are at the heart of the Act and they must be followed by Data Controllers in all but exceptional situations - some of which might be relevant to you.  You can find out their exact detail here: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1998/29/schedule/1/part/II

Nobody needs to tie themselves in knots about data protection. It’s important - you have to get it right if the rules apply to you and the consequences of getting it wrong should be avoided. But we’re well-versed in how to keep compliance straightforward and business-friendly so that you don’t get it wrong. Instead, you can get on with doing what you need or want to do, safe in the knowledge that our advice means you’ve got it covered.
