CQC expands its remit

Following a consultation that was conducted in 2016 the Department of Health has now confirmed it will grant the power to CQC to rate more providers. These will include independent health care providers:

  • Cosmetic surgery services (some types)
  • Independent ambulance services
  • Independent dialysis services
  • Refractive eye surgery services
  • Substance misuse services
  • Termination of pregnancy services

There are four potential ratings: outstanding, good, requires improvement or inadequate.

Providers will need to display the ratings and the aim is to provide more service users to have clear and accessible information in even more areas.

The sectors identified above will be subject to new regulations, set to come into force in 2018.

In addition, another consultation has been launched to ensure 'digital doctors' are operating at the highest standard.
