ICO: SME data protection web hub

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has recently launched a new SME data protection web hub. This hub provides useful and relevant information for newly established organisations or those who have been trading for a while but want to ensure they are getting it right.

In other news two council employees from Walsall and Dorset have been prosecuted in separate cases for inappropriately accessing personal records without authority or good reason. In the first case, which was prosecuted under the Data Protection Act 1998, the officer was sentenced to a fine of £450, ordered to pay costs of £364 and a victim surcharge of £45. In the second case heard at the Poole Magistrates’ Court, the officer admitted one offence of unlawfully obtaining personal data which a breach of the Data Protection Act 2019. She was sentenced to a 6 month conditional discharge, ordered to pay costs of £700 and a victim surcharge of £20.
